The Ritual of Communion
Word Count: 167I find it interesting to look at all the many different ways that people observe the ritual of communion - a ritual of remembrance deemed very important in Christian liturgy and lifestyle. There are many different ways that communion is observed. I come from the tradition of “the church of Christ”, which is a relatively conservative movement most notable for the lack of instruments in formal worship gatherings, especially on Sundays. In the church of Christ, communion is typically observed every Sunday with a prayer between the bread, the fruit of the vine (grape juice), and then afterwords to move into the weekly giving. Some traditions, such as Catholicism, have a celebration the first time one takes communion, even with first communion invitations. Some traditions only take communion once a month rather than every week, while others choose to take communion even more often than once a week. It is interesting to look at how much variety in interpretations there are, all interpreting the same ritual.
