The other side of treadmill season

(98)

April 21st, 2008 | Alan | Rumors and Ideas

Back in the winter I wrote about how it was too cold for running outside; perfect treadmill weather.
The bad thing about where I live is that in the Summertime, it gets too hot (for me at least lol) to run outside. Yeah, it’s spring here - but it was up into the upper 80’s today. Not quite treadmill weather yet, but it’s getting there. Give it 10-15 more degrees and you’d have to pay me to spend much time exercise outdoors. Down here in the southern U.S, I guess there are two treadmill seasons: Winter and Summer!

Cheap Electronics aren’t always cheap

(100)

April 21st, 2008 | Alan | Best Buys

Cheap electronics from places such as China have gotten a bad rap. It is true that in some cases, a low price means a low quality product. The important fact is that this is not true - there are plenty of high quality electronic products at very low prices. For example, (and I may have mentioned this before) I have a great surround sound system that puts out a powerful and enjoyable sound, and I purchased it for only $40. Many people who saw a price like that would consider the product rubbish, but it’s worked well for years.

Anti-Aging Studies?

(92)

April 21st, 2008 | Alan | Current Events

Have you heard of some of the newer anti-aging studies? For years, we’ve heard ads like “buy this top wrinkle cream” or “buy this to look 20 years younger”. The interesting thing, is that the current generation of college/young-business age people have produced scientists who are running anti-aging studies. What’s surprising is that diet may be just as helpful as any chemical or drug, and that lifestyle aspects (such as stress) are nearly equally as important. People finally realized that they can’t wait until they’re old to worry about longevity, lol!

Roots of the Recession

(108)

April 15th, 2008 | Alan | Current Events

I think that the root of the recession may not be in the mortgage lenders, the stock market, or the big businesses. I think that the root of the recession may be in people who let people take out large loans with no credit and nothing to back up or represent the money that they have out on loan. With economic success a few years ago, lenders got into the habit of giving out loans to people who would never earn enough to pay them back on time. Hopefully this economic slump will be short lived and will serve as a warning to those who are loan-happy.

Preventative vs Post Aid?

(112)

April 12th, 2008 | Alan | Current Events

Sometimes I wonder why more money is put into post aid research than preventative in some instances. For example, although weight loss pills are great for people who have already become overweight, shouldn’t there be just as much on the market for maintaining a healthy weight? This is also true for AIDS - although it’s important to try and see what ways there are to help those who have AIDS, it’s just as important to figure out ways to keep people aware and safe from ever contracting the disease farther down the road.

I guess the main reason why more is put into the post aid is because hindsight, not foresight, is 20-20.

The most popular areas of the country - shifting?

(104)

April 12th, 2008 | Alan | Around the World

I find it interesting that Branson lots have become so popular recently. Not too long ago, it was the coast and seaside that was the “best” place to live, especially for older people. Branson seems to be one of the current trends for people and is being marketed as a safe and fun place to live. Far down the road when I’m old enough to have those ads targeted at me, I wonder what part of the country will be marketed as the fun and safe place for my generation? It’ll be interesting to find out, but trust me - I’m in no rush!

Computer Audio System

(117)

April 12th, 2008 | Alan | Best Buys

I still wonder why some people pay hundreds of dollars for expensive audio racks to go in their office at their own house! Yes, it’s nice to have a powerful audio system, but you don’t really have to spend all that much to get the great quality from your system. My sound system, which is surround sound and came with five speakers plus a sub woofer, cost about $40. Yeah, it was a cheaper brand than some like to buy (durabrand) but it’s been durable over the years and has great sound. Don’t judge a product by it’s price - you can usually see if it’s a good buy by looking online at unbiased consumer reviews.

Zero and Up has a new theme!

(108)

April 7th, 2008 | Alan | Blogging

If you’re interested, be sure and check out Zero and Up - there’s a brand new theme there that’s been custom designed for that website, and it looks pretty cool. Enjoy!

To celebrate the theme, there are a variety of “Activities” going on over there. First of all, there’s a special deal running on advertising prices - for this month all ads are selling at a mere fraction of their regular price. Secondly, there’s a quick contest where you have the chance to win a link on the sidebar. Thirdly, there’s going to be a series over the next few days on themes, which promises to be very interesting.

Prohormones

(89)

March 31st, 2008 | Alan | Current Events

What are prohormones? I wasn’t sure for myself, but I found out by doing a quick search on google. Apparently, prohormones have little if any hormonal effect on the body, positive or negative. After hearing that, you probably wonder why anyone would purchase something like that, and I wondered the same thing. But, after reading on, I found out that prohormones are precursors to hormones and help the body to more readily accept injected hormones. In that sense, they are well worth it because they make hormones more effective.

The Newest Weight-Loss Craze

(111)

March 31st, 2008 | Alan | Food and Drink

It seems like every year there are tons of new weight loss programs, and each year one of them becomes really well known and wide spread. (Well, at least one, if not a lot more) You know Alli? That’s the one that’s really been popping up in stores all over the country right now. Some programs that are less of diets and more of lifestyle changes have remained popular even over many years - WeightWatchers seems to fall into that category.

Luckily, I haven’t had to focus on losing weight, I’m at a healthy weight right now. I just need to be sure that I’m maintaining my weight, not gaining any!
