When it comes to upper-medium purchases, such as a television, or even relatively large purchases such as a car, I believe that the best thing to do is to pay up front with cash. However, there are some cases where an opportunity, need, or desire arises and it is totally unreasonable to try to save up cash ahead of time, as doing so might result in the loss of said opportunity, need, or desire. In these cases, such as purchasing a home, you might need to go through some sort of external source of financing. This is available for everything from home financing, rv financing, boat financing, and more. Although it is possible to finance things such as a plasma tv or a midsize sedan, it is best in those cases to try to save up as much cash ahead of time as you can in order to avoid interest payments.
