Are we really all going to be switching to HDTV?
Word Count: 205Right now, many people use standard, non-HD projection televisions, although HDTV projection TV’s are available. The main reason why is the cost aspect, and the fact that non HD footage can sometimes look blurry on an HDTV. A few years ago, we were told that everyone would be using HDTV by 2009, but with the national HDTV usage rate at only 13% of households were HD-equipped as of November 2nd, 2007. (Nielsen) However, a similar study showed that as many as 20% of households could be purchasing an HDTV before the end of 2008. This, at the most, could push the percentage up to 33% of Americans to be using HDTV by the end of 2008. Unless the rest of the 66% switch over during 2009, I really feel that the HDTV switchover won’t take place as soon as expected.
The only thing that could cause this is that analog broadcast will be shut off soon across the nation, and everyone will have to use at least digital reception; this could cause more people to purchase new (and perhaps HD-capable) televisions to deal with the change. Even so, I still don’t believe that HDTV will be taking over until sometime during the next decade.

I hope that the HDTV switchover is a long time off in the future. I don’t want to have to buy new TVs anytime soon!
